RING 3 – Stockman’s Challenge (Saturday)

Stockman’s Challenge                     

Judge: TBC          Ring Starts: 9.00am

There will be three parts incorporated into the Stockman‘s challenge. Each individual event needs to be completed for an overall score by each Rider.

Class 135 – Stockman’s Challenge Open Competitor – All Competitors 15yrs & Over

Class 136 – Stockman’s Challenge Junior Competitor – 14yrs & Under

3. Whip Crack

Competitors are to enter one (or more if applies) sections:

Open competitor: All competitors 15 years and over

Junior competitor: 14 years and under. 

Best Local Open Rider and Junior Rider awards for top score on the day.

*Criteria competitors must live within 50 km radius of Tanunda Oval.

Once competitor has completed this course they are given 60 seconds, one minute freestyle to showcase to the judge why their horse is the most educated and best mount on the oval. The competitor will be given a score of 50 points which will be added to the compulsory dry pattern above.

2. OBSTACLE COURSE.

The obstacle course will be set up as follows with each obstacle being scored out of 10 points. If a competitor chooses to go round an obstacle they will forfeit any points, however if a competitor chooses to go around three obstacles or does not complete three they will be eliminated. Juniors course will be slightly different to open competitors.

1. Acknowledge judge and wait until judge allows you to begin.

2. Proceed to L shaped poles at a walk back through the L shape right angle obstacle.

3. Trott towards 44 gallon drum collect bucket full of water ride to 2nd 44 gallon drum. Tip the contents of the bucket into the container that is empty on top of the second drum.

4. Wave through five bending poles. Horse to be scored for consistent movement. Writer can choose to Trott or Canter this obstacle.

5. Walk over mounted on your horse a bridge.

6. Holt alongside five bales of hay. Dismount on top of the Bale and walk course alongside you to the end. Remount. Bonus points if you can remount your horse from the opposite side.

7.  Ride your horse into a square outlined with poles on the ground. Do a full roll back without leaving the square.

8. Work mechanical Cow three turns on fence.

9. Collect a bag of cans off of drum ride over and drop at the feet of the judge. Alternate for bonus points drag the rope around our fake ball behind your horse and tie up to post by judges side.

3. WHIP CRACKING.

At a canter competitor must attempt to hit three obstacles vertically on their left and three obstacles vertically on their right.

The competitor then will be given 30 seconds of freestyle whip cracking. They are permitted to dismount their horse but Horse must be in control by the rider at all times.

Juniors are not to dismount during this Horse must remain in control. If the junior requires a person on foot they may assist them to hold their horse.

Overall scores will determine the winners of each category.

Ribbons and prizes for each event will be awarded to 3rd place.

With champion and reserve champion awarded with the accumulated score for both open and junior competitors as well as highest score by a local and junior competitor
